Google Project Glass

by hannah

Google has finally announced the public test of its augmented reality glasses with the codename Project Glass. A mocked video of  the potential functionality of the device which can be found below shows a man getting directions, playing music, uploading photos to Google+, using voice commands to send messages and even talking to someone through video chat and more. For this being the case, Google glass  might be a good competition against Apple and Facebook, since using Google glasses will no longer require a person to pull out his cellphone or laptop to do all those stuffs. Plus its voice controlled which might be a good competitor to Siri. . We all know that Facebook is the largest Social networking site and Apple as the world’s greatest hardware company.

The prototype version of these glasses doesn’t really look like the usual glasses that we wear. Instead it appear to be made of a solid metal band that runs across the brow line, with a small heads-up display that sits above the right eye.  But it is just a prototype, who knows what the actual glasses would really look like, or they might even make contact lens version of it. :D There are a lot of possibilities.  I’m even excited to see how this device will be useful to people with disabilities. That would really be very helpful if they consider making a version for these kinds of people.

The actual release might take a year, but time passes by so fast  and I really hope it pushes through. And I know that most of you are also excited.  For me, it’s the most ambitious device ever!

I stumbled across more amazing wearable electronic accessories at TED, Kate Hartman talks about the art of wearable communication. Genuinely fascinating art/devices, check it out. A tad bit more fantastical in comparison with google spectacles, still fun!
